about

In late 2019, I visited Serbia for the first time in almost 20 years. We initially booked the flight as a farewell to my grandfather who was suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's. He seemed to take a turn for the worse while they happened to be out there on their vacation and sadly passed days before we arrived so it turned out to be a reunion/funeral situation for the whole family.

This trip was both a tragic and an incredible experience. Tragic in the sense of my grandfather passing and incredible in a sense where I got to truly see where my family came from as an adult. Not as a child where a 13 hour plane ride to a different country felt the same as a 24 hour car ride to Florida or some other random destination I felt like I was being dragged to. I got to see family that I hadn't seen in almost two decades and some that I've never met at all while also playing tourist and seeing many beautiful places in Serbia.

I got to see what my life could've been like verses the one I had taken for granted. I am truly thankful to have the life I do and it wouldn't have been possible if it weren't for the massive risk my parents and grandparents took to move to the US from Serbia and build a new life for us here.

That being said, I of course brought all my music stuff and recorded a new edition of ILKA Beatz; the name I gave to my little travelers log project in the form of music and samples. These songs are an audible reminder of what I saw and how I felt in the moment. Every time I listen to these tracks it warps me back in time to what I was doing when I recorded them, which was mostly hanging around random villages while drinking and eating all Serbia had to offer...and I mean ALL OF IT. In a good way of course! Almost all of them were recorded in a day or two as we rushed from city to city or village to village, so it's very bare bones.

I hope you guys take a quick listen and enjoy. This one was very special.

Rest in Peace Antonije "Tony" Radovanovic
